Chateau Rolland-Maillet St.-Emilion 2019
Saturday, Jan 08, 2022
Score: 95
Color: Red
Country: France
Region: Bordeaux
Vintage: 2019
Blueberry and blackberry aromas with some lavender, following through to a full body with round, juicy tannins and plenty of ripe fruit. But there’s a solid tannin framework to this, giving it excellent structure. Best ever? 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Drink after 2026.

Blackcurrants, darker cherries, new leather, dried herbs, and sandalwood are just some of the nuances in the 2019 Chateau Rolland Maillet, a rich, medium to full-bodied, concentrated Saint-Emilion that has lots of character. It drops off slightly on the finish, but I like its mid-palate, and I suspect this will open up nicely with 2-4 years of bottle age.

The 2019 Rolland-Maillet is an attractive, easygoing Saint-Emilion to drink now and over the next decade or so. Bright floral, spice and blood orange accents lift a core of dark red cherry/plum fruit. This is nicely done.

Round, soft and silky, medium-bodied and filled with charm, sweet, fresh, spicy, polished, dark red pit fruits, vanilla and licorice, this is already quite nice to taste. 90-92

Delivers warm plum sauce and blackberry preserve notes that roll through, with a solid inlay of dark licorice and roasted apple wood. The gutsy, juicy finish pumps the fruit through. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2030.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Rolland-Maillet is a little shy to begin, giving subtle cedar and black raspberry scents before opening out to notes of stewed plums, black cherry preserves, wild sage and star anise plus wafts of cast-iron pan and Marmite toast. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is tightly wound, offering restrained black fruits accented by mineral notes and a plush texture, finishing with a lively lift.
