Big Changes for Wine Online: Everything You Need to Know About the New WTSO Website

WTSO.com has been going strong as an online wine destination for almost 15 years, and we don’t plan on stopping any time soon. We decided it was time to freshen things up, so we’re getting a face lift in Fall 2019!

We’ll still be the website you know and love, but we’re just adding a few things to make your experience even better. Here’s what you can expect with the redesign:

A Fresh Look

If you know WTSO, you know that we’re proud of our signature purple color in our logo and on our site. Well now, we’re adding even more colors to the mix! Expect the new site to have beautiful yet subtle pops of color that are sure to please the eye.

But of course, we aren’t stopping with the color palette. The overall layout of the website will have a sleek, more modern look that makes navigation simple and seamless. There will be clearly labeled tabs and pages, a smoother sign-up page, and more.

In addition to changing up our look a bit, we wanted to take our redesign a step further and offer some new exclusive features for our members.

Added Features

All of the following features are being added or enhanced to make online wine shopping easier, more convenient, and even more beneficial for our customers. Here are just a few things you can expect to see upon the redesign:

  • Premium Selections – A new page that offers a wide variety of some of the world’s most high-end bottles of wine
  • Last Chance – A section that displays wines that are selling out or becoming unavailable soon
  • New Sharing Options – A feature that allows customers to share a bottle with their friends so they can purchase it right away
  • Cellar ReOrder – A recently-introduced feature that allows people to purchase any bottle they’ve previously ordered again

And most importantly, the newest and biggest WTSO feature: Weekly Tasting!

WTSO & Weekly Tasting

Weekly Tasting, the child company of WTSO, has been creating themed wine tasting sets for a few years now — and they’re ready to officially become part of the WTSO family. Starting this fall along with the redesign, Weekly Tasting will be merging with WTSO.

What does this change? Nothing, really! Weekly Tasting fans will still have the same shopping experience they know and love, but it will be hosted as a tab on the WTSO website. It’ll be the same company with identical values, just under the WTSO umbrella to add extra convenience for our customers.

And now, WTSO fans can see what Weekly Tasting is all about in just one click. They’ll now have easy access to tasting sets with delicious bottles of wine, food pairing recipes, informational videos, and more.

The New and Improved WTSO

While we’re changing a lot of things about our website this fall, our commitment to our customers never waiver. We stay true to our no-frills style, and are dedicated to keeping our priority the same — delivering the most high-quality wines and service. We’re making every one of these changes to appeal to our customers and ensure that they’re having the best online experience.

  • Like the cellar re-order feature, but most of my previous Pinot Noirs aren’t available. Plus, the scrolling feature was awkward.
Just ordered some wine and noticed new look!

  • Would like to know ALL ratings by critics, not just the highest one(s). Maroni loves anything from southern Italy and Suckling’s ratings are usually on the higher than average side. Also, I find the WTSO user ratings the most reliable and would love to have access on all offerings.

  • How about continuing the Gift Pack with some nice wines and Riedel crystal wine glasses?

Thanks for offering the nice wines at good prices and the excellent customer service I have received over these many years.

  • When you have a WTSO event you need to permit us to mix and match different wines until we buy enough to get free shipping. That is the main reason I seldom get involved. I don’t want several bottles of wine that I know nothing about. If I get them, drink the first one and don’t like it then I have to dread drinking the rest.

    Thanks

    • That’s a great idea for event days, especially for the Cheapskate marathons. Being able to put single bottles of different wines in my cart and then check out when I get to 4 or 6 bottles would be a huge incentive to order more. And while I know they will issues refunds (in the form of WTSO gift certificates) for wines I don’t like, it would be really great to be able to try single bottles of multiple, different wines that we could add to our carts throughout the day. Honestly, I see no reason why this couldn’t be implemented, since all the wines offered on the main WTSO page are packed and shipped from the same warehouse.

  • I really like the ability to repurchase wines via one’s wine cellar. Currently you have to scroll through the list to see which wines are still available. Why not add an additional sort feature that would allow one to display all still available purchased wines?

  • I have a 700+ bottle cellar and am always looking to stock up on wines I enjoy. I’m willing to order 4 or 6 bottles of an offering that appeals to me and if I really love the wine I’d like to be able to order several cases. But of course by the time I’ve tasted the first bottle the wine is “sold out”. Perhaps you could offer a “reorder window” for a few weeks and get the supplier to provide back by making additional stock available for full case reorders.

  • I love the new Premium Selection feature. I frequently visit the “more wines” section and I’m often scanning for more of the higher-end bottles ($50+). So having a designated area devoted specifically to those premium offerings is exciting. (I’m hoping that section will also include more Large Format offerings)

I also love Alan Felix’s comment regarding the Gift Packs. I bought a couple of those Gift Pack options a few years ago and I thought the product and packaging was great. I would definitely consider buying more Gift Packs (or upgrading my occasional order to a “Gift Pack”) if that option was available.

  • I have been ordering from WTSO for several years…upgrades to site look good. One upgrade you should consider…I have an 800 bottle cellar and I lose track of years, ratings, drink by dates, etc…you could create printer friendly bottle tags/small labels so all purchases could be tagged when ordering…it would easily organize any cellar…

  • I am an Italian wine afficionado and mostly (98%) buy Italian. Can you provide a list of available Italian wines which we could mix and match?

  • I would like to see a note on each wine that would list medium or full body on reds and oaky or fruity on whites, especially Chardonnay

  • The only ratings I trust are those by Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator. These are the only three entities I’m aware of which do 100% blind tasting. My belief is that all the others can be bought! If a wine with which I’m not familiar is not rated by one of the three, I just don’t order it.

  • I use the ratings by WTSO members and, so far, have found that they reflect very well my taste. I wonder how these ratings were compiled. Please keep providing them whenever available.

    • I agree that the WTSO member ratings more match my own judgement. Parker (or whoever is doing the various regions under the Parker umbrella) also tends to rate similar to my own opinion. Suckling rates much too easily – I get no help from a JS ranking.

  • I would like to know the date of the critic rating and comments. Is it current or is it several years old? Sometimes the comment says to cellar for two more years. Without knowing when the review was written I cannot tell what “two years” means. Two years from when?
