Petite Sirah 2013
The 2013 Two Angels Petite Sirah is very dark purple (nearly black) and boasts savory aromas of ripe blackberries, violets, spice, and black pepper. Abundant fruit flavors in this well-structured wine are nicely integrated with toasted oak and a touch of black licorice. Although well built with good weight, true to varietal, this wine has a suppleness, especially with airing, not usual for Petite Sirah.
This is the first vintage to come from the highly acclaimed Red Hills Appellation in Lake County. By moving to the hills on the eastern side of Clear Lake, we felt we had a better chance to control the fruit from more than one vineyard, possibly adding even more to the complexity of our Petite Sirah. As you might have guessed, this appellation is known for its iron-rich red soils, and in many areas, the soils are laced with obsidian rocks of varying sizes that aid in drainage.
The label art was created by Jacob DeBacker in 1591. The theme of the piece is the hilarity of inebriation and the trauma of the morning after. Excessive joy must be countered by equally excessive sorrow, with penitential atonement for pleasure.

This is a no-nonsense, straightforward wine with a very deep color, blackberry aromas and roast coffee flavors. Huge tannins that make the texture drying and astringent. Time will mellow it, so it's best not to drink until at least 2019.

Velvety tannins provide backbone for the straightforward, vanilla-laced flavors of candied berry and plum. Turns rustic on the finish. Drink now through 2025. –MW
