Parcelles et Cie Macon Prisse 2020
Producers Note
Terres Secretes has been operating since 1928, with a fabulous range of named vineyards from outstanding Burgundian appellations, sustainably produced and carefully blended by a dedicated cellarmaster from the Prisse appellation in the Maconnais region of southern Burgundy. Macon Prisse is where Terres Secretes has established its headquarters, where they are widely considered the best cooperative group in the area. Parcelles is a new concept showcasing their high-end, limited production, small batch cuvees.
Terroir
Vineyard altitude is about 250 meters above sea level and south-east facing. This 'parcel' is from the Belouzes vineyard, right in the epicenter of the Macon Prisse appellation.
Vintage
2020 produced very ripe and concentrated fruit after a mild winter with little rainfall and an uneventful dry summer, resulting in vineyard maturity three weeks ahead of the 2019 harvest. Sunlight exposure was well above average, with the harvest being one of the earliest on record.
Vinification
Harvest was manual, and no sorting was needed, producing phenolically-ripe, pristine, healthy grapes. Pneumatic pressing was gentle, using low pressure with the juice extracted gently to preserve the integrity of the ripe fruit. After temperature-controlled fermentation, nearly half the production was aged in oak barrels for 12 months with some lees stirring.
Tasting Notes
Hints of bright and ripe citrus fruit, hawthorn, and white flowers underpin the exotic yellow fruit characteristics of the expressive nose. The textured and vibrant palate boasts mineral and refreshing Meyer lemon components throughout, on its way to the nicely chiseled finish.
Service
Food Pairings: Perfect as a pre-dinner wine; also accompanies light grilled chicken dishes and most crustacean and fish dishes - including fish and chips or trout tartare.
Aging Potential: Ready to drink now and over the next three to four years
