Tasting Notes
This sparkling wine is made from our best grapes. It is light straw-yellow colored and has a light froth and a fine, persistent perlage. Its flower and fruit notes recall golden apple, banana, and wisteria. Serre Prosecco has a peculiar sweetish and velvety flavor. Good as an aperitif, it can be served at the end of a meal, especially with creamy desserts.
Location
The name 'Serre' has a meaning closely associated with the land. It is the name of a location appearing on maps, which stands for a "valley which opens and then closes." The Serre agribusiness sits in the municipality of Combai di Miane, a small town in the Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG district of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, in the province of Treviso. Its lands have become famous for 'marroni' or large chestnuts harvested among majestic, century-old chestnut trees.
Vineyard Notes
The Serre farm manages 18 hectares of terrain, most of which are vineyards. The rest are meadows and wooded areas. The quality of the terrain is ideal for producing sparkling wines, where the average slope is 30%, and thus, the viniculture is similar to that found in the mountains to the hills. Machinery cannot access this area, so the operations are all done by hand, and materials are moved using back baskets. Therefore, the yields are often limited and hardly ever amount to 130 quintals per hectare, as foreseen by the Regulations for Origin control. The terrain is a mix of clay and rock substrata. The hot summer weather, when grapes ripen, is eased by the capricious breezes blowing from north to south across an open amphitheater down to the plains that reach the sea.
Farming Notes
The vines farmed in the Serre vineyards are the traditional, autochthonous ones of Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, Verdiso, Bianchetta, and Perea. The farming techniques are the usual double-arched cane and cappuccino for the Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG and Verdiso vineyards. The terrain and weather conditions, along with the utmost care by the Serre wine farmers, enable the wine to express those terroir qualities.
