World-Class Wines: The Best of Premium Wine Club

Hi, I’m Ed – WTSO’s in-house wine expert with a WSET Level 2 Certification! Every month, I’ll be sharing my top wine picks.

Over the past decade and a half, our teams have worked diligently alongside top industry professionals to source from some of the most meticulous and esteemed wineries in the world.

On a monthly basis, we feature the most interesting new bottles to our Premium Wine Club members first. I’m giving you insider access to some of those high-end wine selections by highlighting my favorite bottles across the 20+ amazing themes we’ve featured.

94 Pt. J Vineyards and Winery 2016
Pinot Noir Russian River Valley Barrel 16
(50% off)

From the first swirl, the Foggy Bend Vineyard Pinot Noir shows off something special. The wine begins with alluring aromatics of plum, blackberry, thyme, and freshly unearthed black truffle. On the complex, food-friendly palate, inviting notes of dark cherry, pomegranate juice, and tart blueberry blend seamlessly with herbal and earthy hints of fennel, pine, cinnamon stick, and nutmeg. Seductive and integrated, it shows balanced roundness that is supremely appealing.

94 Pt. Château La Couspaude 2016
Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé
(55% off)

A blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. It instantly begins with seductive aromas of ripe blackberries, creme de cassis, spices, leather, roasted coffee and hints of sweet oak. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied with a gorgeous plush inviting texture. It displays wonderful concentration and balance from start to finish. Overall this is wonderfully expressive Saint-Emilion Grand Cru which should go on to drink beautifully for years to come.

94 Pt Levo Wines ‘Nada Mas’ 2020
California Grenache
(47% off)

This wine includes 71% Grenache, 14% Mourvedre, 12% Graciano, and 3% Syrah, the 2020 Grenache Nada Mas is rock solid, with a fruit-forward, charming style delivering lots of red and black berry fruits, notes of spice box and peppery herbs, medium to full body with good mid-palate density, This 2020 Grenache Nada Mas is bright and punchy, with terrific energy driving a core of red-fleshed varietal fruit. A wine full of energy, this 2020 is a winner!

93 Pt Cave de Tain St.-Péray 2021
AOP ‘Fleur de Roc’ White (58% off)

The 2021 Saint-Peray Fleur De Roc (92% Marsanne, 8% Roussanne) is a solid step up, with terrific purity in its peach, honeyed orange, and floral aromatics. These carry to a medium-bodied white with terrific balance, integrated acidity, no hard edges, and a great, great finish. It’s a seriously impressive Saint-Peray to enjoy now or any time over the next several years.

91 Pt Cave de Tain Cornas 2020
AOP ‘Arènes Sauvages’ Red (61% off)

A step up, the 2020 Cornas Arenes Sauvages brings another level of purity and precision. Blackberries, violets, ripe cherries, spice, and some meaty notes give way to a medium to full-bodied effort that has terrific purity and precision. On the palate the wine is fresh, polished, and deceivingly easy to drink, finishing with a peppery edge to the chalky finish. Outstanding now, but will evolve with additional cellaring over the next 8-10 years.

Personally, I’d strongly recommend joining Premium Wine Club and experiencing these alongside fellow members, myself, and our virtual tasting host and partner sommelier, Marc Supsic. There are some stellar themes coming up soon that cover the top styles across many world regions!
