RECIPE: Lemon Mousse With Cream

The beginning of the New Year is the ideal time to sip on sparkling wine — and what goes better with a bottle of bubbly than a delicious, light, lemony dessert? Pair a leftover bottle with this must-have sweet treat.


  • Lemon cream trifle
  • 1 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp grated lemon peel
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 12 ladyfingers


Make lemon syrup with water, ¼ cup sugar, and ¼ cup lemon juice. Whip chilled cream into stiff peaks.

In a metal bowl, whisk lemon juice, 1 cup sugar, eggs, egg yolks, and lemon peel. Heat the bowl while whisking using a double boiler. Whisk carefully while heating until thickened. Cool lemon curd before layering trifle.

Brush lemon syrup over lady fingers and layer the bottom of the container. Layer lemon curd, whipped cream, and syrup brushed lady fingers until filled.
