Tricks to Pairing Wine with Candy

Are wine and candy two of your favorite things, and not just on Halloween? You’re not alone! When pairing, here’s a good rule of thumb: try to pair major flavor components in the wine and in the candy. For example, sparkling wine often has bright fruit flavors so it goes nicely with sweet, fruity tasting Nerds. Similarly, a Chardonnay that has toasty and buttery flavors, pairs well with the caramel and malt in milk duds. If the wine has flavors that typically work with chocolate like coffee or dried fruit, it might make a good pairing with M&Ms. Have fun using candy as a way to explore the multifaceted flavors of wine and how they interact with food.
