Vintage Details
The 2022 growing season started with a bang that would leave us in a panic. Over Easter weekend, a freeze killed all the primary buds at our estate vineyard and left us wondering if we would have a vintage! Mother Nature rebounded a month later with secondary and tertiary buds (maturing into shoots and clusters) and ultimately presented a wonderful vintage. The resulting quantity of Pinot Noir from our estate vineyard was low, with yields averaging less than 1.25 tons/acre, yet we are very pleased with the quality of this limited wine. We have continued to improve the health of our estate vineyard and the expression of our vineyard's unique terroir since 2008. Summer was warm and uneventful, with minimal disease pressure. The Pinot Noir blocks ripened their very small clusters gradually, and we harvested each at optimal taste and parameters around acids, lignification, and seed maturity. The ensuing wines are beautiful expressions of Pinot Noir with pretty, ripe, dark fruit aromas, lively acidity, and roundness on the palate.
Vinification
Fermentation management included 3-6 day cold-soaks, spontaneous native yeast ferments, twice-a-day pump-overs, and gentle cap-only punch-downs. The final blend has roughly 10% whole cluster and is comprised of mostly free-run barrels following racking off the lees.

Tasting Notes
The typicity of our estate vineyard terroir shines through in this vintage. The dark ruby red wine opens with pretty, ripe cherry and plum that meld seamlessly with underlying wild herbs, dried flowers, spice, and black tea notes. Layers of sweet, dark cherries dance across the palate, while acidity is seamlessly integrated and balances nicely with the expansive, bright texture. Medium-long finish with structured tannins. We suggest decanting this vintage in its youth. Drink now or over the next 10+ years.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Family Estate was aged [...] in 30% new French oak and displays a deep youthful red hue. It’s spicy on the nose, with notes of toasted oak spice, cedar, ripe cherries, and sweet tea leaf. Juicy, ripe, and approachable, it has a rounded, medium-bodied frame, ripe tannins, and darker mineral accents to balance the fruit. It is a highly appealing wine now but has the freshness and structure to mature at a slow rate over the next 8-10 years.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Estate is spice-driven, cascading up from the glass with an array of ground cloves, lavender and citrus peels. Soft and round, it flows across the palate with perfumed red and blue fruits guided by brisk acidity. Fine-grained tannins saturate as the 2022 finishes with admirable length and a concentration of primary fruits over a coating liquid [sic] florals. A bit of oak integration is still needed in order to find an ideal balance.
