Cherries and rose petals contrast the textured crispness of wild fennel, burnt sage and orange peel on the nose. Sweet cherries and bitter herbs with underbrush continue on the palate, above a foundation of densely packed, fine-grained tannins.

The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino wine opens with inviting aromas of red cherries and plums that are joined together with spices, licorice, cedar and leather characteristics. On the palate this is medium-bodied and structured with a [sic] fine-grained tannins. If [sic] finishes long, with red fruits and spices lingering. Overall this is an excellent Brunello which is accessible now, but should also evolve nicely with some additional bottle age.

A ruby/red color, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino is a bit understated. Initially ripe with aromas of baked red plum, woodsy earth, and balsamic herbs, it’s full-bodied on the palate and offers grippy tannins and an earthy profile with a clean finish. It would be well-matched to pair with a steak drizzled with olive oil. Drink 2024-2032.

Aromas of cedar, berries, orange peel and some lifted notes follow through to a full body with chewy tannins and a tangy finish. Lots of new wood. May be a little too much. But it should come around with bottle age. Try after 2025.

The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino from Lazzeretti lifts from the glass with an unsavory blend of crushed plums, cedar and sour milk. It’s soft, textured and round, yet lacks energy and drive. This finishes with medium-length and aggressive tannins that penetrate deeply. I’m not sure what happened here.

Maturing ruby with orange tinges. A nose that is savoury and a little stalky rather than fruit-driven. Round, tangy cherry fruit with gripping tannins adding tension. Ends a tiny bit dry. Pleasant rather than impressive and ready now. (WS)
