Deep garnet in the glass, this wine has aromas of Mission fig, cocoa butter and dried Mediterranean herbs. Opulent tannins offer a backdrop to black-cherry, purple-plum, clove, caramel and crumbled sage-leaf flavors as well as a faint note of mint tea that carries into the enduring finish. Drink through 2038.

The 2019 Licenciado Rioja Reserva opens to inviting aromas of dark cherries and plums along with vanilla, spices and toasted oak all taking shape in the glass. On the palate this is medium-full with a round, velvety texture that is backed by a core of dark/red berries, toasted oak and spices that carry over onto the finish. This becomes much more expressive after extended air contact, and should develop nicely with another year or two of bottle age.
