Really perfumed with violets, lavender and dark cherries. The medium- to full-bodied palate has firmness, chewy tannins and subtle fruit underneath. [...] Better from 2026.

Last produced in 2016, Sassodisole’s Riserva is selected in the vineyard bunch by bunch according to ripeness, and sees a year longer in large Slavonian oak casks than the estate's 'annata' bottling. A beautiful, candid expression, it rings out with clarity of flint, terracotta, red cherry and raspberry. There is joyful exuberance to the sweet currant core matched by youthfully vigorous tannins. Luscious acidity keeps all buoyantly afloat, lingering with savoury liquorice. Just needs to settle a bit.

The 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva pours a saturated red color and is spicy and ripe on the nose with aromas of menthol, Christmas spice, black cherry, and cedar. The palate is full-bodied, with gamey mineral richness, building, ripe tannins, and a snappy lift of acidity on the finish. It's a robust wine to enjoy over the coming 10 years.

From: A Tale of Two Extremes: The 2020 Brunellos and 2019 Riservas (Nov 2024)
The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva has a dusty bouquet featuring notes of dried flowers and a subtle fruit character. This is soft and round, with ripe cherry and strawberry scents that flow across a stream of fresh acidity. The 2019 possesses a lovely balance yet misses some depth, finishing with a saline mineral tinge and hints of tart citrus.

Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Minerally, stony notes and aromatic red fruit of great intensity. Succulent, rich raspberry fruit but not heavy or sweet at all. Long and juicy and with great depth of fruit and finely ground tannins. Needs more time and deserves it. (WS)
