White Label IGP Colli della Toscana Centrale 2012
Terroir
Soil: Of Pliocene origin, sedimentary formations characterized by alternating strata of yellow sands and clay, with a notable presence of marine fossils
Micro-Climate: Warm and temperate with average to high precipitation, cold winters, warm to very warm summers, and particularly sunny late afternoons and sunsets, given the precise western exposure
Exposure: Southwestern with a north-to-south orientation of vine rows
Vineyard Work
Working of the soil is alternated with cover crops along with Cordon de Royat training system. Crop thinning during the growing season and a final selection of the crop. During hand-picking, bunches are placed in small packing cases and selected on a belt before they are pressed.
Production Notes
Grapes: Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon
Fermentation: Two weeks of skin contact in stainless steel tanks between 79 and 83 degrees F (26-28 degrees C); complete malolactic fermentation
Aging: In small, medium-toasted French oak barrels for approximately twelve months, followed by at least 18 months of bottle aging before release
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Great aromatic complexity with notes of red and black fruit, particularly raspberries and black cherries, well-fused spice, and vanilla notes, which recall tobacco and chocolate. With age, balsamic aromas along with sensations of truffles.
Flavor: Great structure and persistence, elegant and enveloping. The texture of the tannins is quite dense, characterized by velvety suppleness. Very long on the finish with an intense and pleasurable aftertaste.
Service
Suggestions: An ideal wine for lengthy cellaring, to be served in large crystal stemware between 61 and 65 degrees F (16-18 degrees C)
Food Pairing: Ideal with grilled meat, roasts, and medium-aged cheese

A blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2012 D'Isanto and D'Isanto White Label is a bit muddled with earthy tones and ripe cherry fruit. It's hard to get a good sense of either variety. The mouthfeel shows good definition in part thanks to the firmness of the tannins at the back. Sangiovese does make an appearance thanks to the bright acidity and mild bitterness you feel on the close.
