In his article '2016 Chianti Classico - A Modern Day Benchmark,' celebrated wine critic Antonio Galloni begins, "I can't remember the last time I was this excited about Chianti Classico and its wines." It's easy to get carried away with enthusiasm after tasting the remarkable 'Clemente VII' Riserva from Grevepesa. With a trademark bright cherry-flavor base, layer upon layer of baking spice, blackberry cobbler, and tea leaf tannin build to create a fantastic taste collage. Secure this Tuscan red from the vintage of the decade for $15 - it's the deal of the century!

Castelli del Grevepesa 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Clemente VII
Rating: 93
San Casciano in Val Di Pesa (Chianti Classico, Firenze), Tuscany
Red wine from Italy
Drinking window: 2022 - 2031
The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Clemente VII is laced with sweet dark cherry, plum, menthol, licorice and espresso. Unctuous and plush, the Clemente VII offers terrific depth and density. The Clemente VII is a bit richer on the mid-palate than the straight Castelgreve Riserva, but the wines are not that materially different, except there is a bit more oak sweetness and tannin here.
