Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2014
Wine Details
Appellation: Saint-Emilion Grand Cru
Vineyard Area: 11.5 hectares
Average Vine Age: 40 years
Grape Varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Franc
Average Yield: 40 hl/ha
Terroir
The Chateau Tour Saint Christophe is located at the limit between the two villages of Saint-Emilion and Saint Christophe des Bardes. The Chateau overlooks beautiful dry stone terraces, probably several hundred years old on a chalky-clay terroir.
Farming Method
Parcel management of the soil and vineyard. Traditional farming, Guyot mixte pruning, natural grass between the rows, work on the soil under the vine, de-budding, subtle leaf removal, and green harvest if necessary to respect the environmental balance.
Harvests and Winemaking
After hand-picking with plastic crates and a first selection in the vineyard, the grapes arrive at the winery, where they are destalked and carefully sorted. Fermentation is carried out in temperature-controlled concrete tanks. Barrels are filled just after running off, and malolactic fermentation is completed in barrel. The wine is aged 15 months, depending on the vintage, in French oak barrels (60% new).
Tasting Comments
A bright ruby color. On the nose, enticing notes of red fruit (strawberry, raspberry), spices, and minerals begin to emerge. On the palate, the attack is on the fruit with the evolution of typical features of the chalky-clay terroir.

The 2014 Les Terrasses de Saint Christophe delivers lovely aromas of ripe cherries, blackberries followed by violets, tobacco, wet stones and a touch spice. This medium-bodied red is wrapped in fine silky tannins, showing great structure and balance all the way through the long finish, which is laced with even more dark fruits and tobacco flavors.
