Winemaker Profile
Robert (Bob) Foley began his winemaking career in Napa Valley in 1977 after graduating from UC Davis with degrees in Viticulture and Enology. He spent his first year working for Heitz Cellars, followed by 15 years as the founding winemaker for Markham Vineyards. In 1992, Bob began another 15 years as the founding winemaker for Pride Mountain Vineyards. He also created the highly acclaimed Switchback Ridge, Hourglass, Paloma, and School House wines during this period. He now focuses mostly on Robert Foley Vineyards wines and creating the offerings of Padis Vineyards, Herson Family Vineyards, and JennaMarise wines in the Napa Valley. Bob's reputation for producing very expressive wines that finish gracefully continues to develop at his winery facility on Napa County's Howell Mountain, where more than 1,500 barrels are housed in an extensive cave system (completed in 2008) for the production of Robert Foley wines.
Soil
The vines and soils at Padis Vineyards showcase the best of the Oak Knoll District of Napa. Located in a sweet spot between Napa's warmer upper-valley appellations to the north and the cooler Carneros region to the south, the vines thrive in an ideal climate with early morning fog, warm days, and cool nights. The majority of the 15 acres planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are on a steep incline and were cultivated to viticulture specifications developed for Padis Vineyards. The soils at Padis Vineyards are primarily gravel and clay over a rock base layer. Most are porous and drain well. This forces vineyard roots to extend deep into the ground for water. While this stresses the vine, it also leads to long-term health and hearty, dense fruit.

Tasting Notes
A banner year for Cabernet, this vintage could eclipse the stellar 2012. The hallmarks of this profound effort include intense, vivid, juicy dark fruit, robust tannins, vibrant presence, and a minute-plus-long finish. On the nose, plenty of blackberry, cherry, licorice, and black currant for days. Full-bodied and ripe with solid structure, rounded texture, and hearty tannins, it retains the fruit presence throughout, creating an aromatic and palatal symphony of flavors and sensations. Hints of savory herbs, baking spice, light oak, white pepper, and cloves. It flirts with jamminess yet retains its underlying edifice and bright acidity beautifully. Smooth and inviting, it transitions into a lengthy, leisurely, luscious finish.
