Fay Vineyard is one of the sites that put the Stags Leap District on the map. Nathan Fay planted it in 1961, and the Cabernet it produced was persuasive enough that Warren Winiarski bought the neighboring land in 1970 to found Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars.
The winery’s 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon went on to win the 1976 Judgment of Paris, the blind tasting that put Napa Valley Cabernet on the same table as top Bordeaux. Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars eventually acquired Fay Vineyard itself, and this FAY Hillside bottling draws from blocks the winery normally reserves for its own super-premium blends

Chappellet has stayed family-run since Donn and Molly Chappellet founded it in 1967, among the first to plant vineyards on Pritchard Hill – a steep, high-elevation site above Lake Hennessey that few wineries had touched before them.
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate has called that estate fruit a source for “some of the most exciting Cabernets coming out of Napa,” and nearly six decades later, Chappellet is still farming the same hillside that made its name.
