Prestigious Wines Verified by Wine Experts

Hi, I’m Ed – WTSO’s in-house wine expert with a WSET Level 2 Certification! Every month, I’ll be sharing my top wine picks.

It’s time to ‘spring forward’ and make a shopping list for the warmer and brighter days, and prepare your food and wine list pairings for the spring season at month’s end. Here are a few highly-rated wines to get you started!

93 Pt. Champagne Baron-Fuenté Cuvée 7 Brut NV (Steal Deal!)

7 represents the seven years of aging on slats necessary to make the prodigious ‘Cuvee 7.’ The seven years bring strength and finesse to this truly exceptional Champagne. Quite full-bodied, but the balance is beautiful, the mineral acidity and fine mousse beautifully integrated. Long, creamy, yet nicely dry finish. This sparkling wine is ready to drink!

91 Pt. Sotavento Verdejo Rueda DO 2022 (Only $14.99!)

Melon, pineapple, lemongrass and fresh pears on the nose. Fruity and vibrant, with delicious herb and mineral undertones, a medium body, and a creamy, lengthy finish. Crisp and refreshing, this friendly white belongs on the table when your lunch or dinner guests arrive!

93 Pt. Miner Family Pinot Noir Sierra Mar Vineyard Santa Lucia Highlands 2018 (Member-Favorite AVA!)

Brilliant ruby-red in color. Highly perfumed aromas of ripe red and dark berries, vanilla and candied flowers, along with building baking spice and mineral nuances. Concentrated but lively black raspberry, cherry cola and mocha flavors take on licorice and floral qualities through the midpalate. Finishes very long, with a repeating cherry note and polished tannins adding shape and grip. A beautiful Pinot Noir from the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation!

95 Pt. Kay Brothers Griffon’s Key Grenache 2020 (60% Off!)

An awesome Australian wine! This beautifully fragrant and ripe 2020 Grenache Griffon’s Key is bursting with raspberry and cherry aromas. More meaty and spicy elements rise up with time in the glass. A hearty structure emerges with tangy acidity and firm tannins on a full-flavored palate with great length all the way through the finish. Traditionally styled, this well-composed wine is built to enjoy now or for the long haul and will undoubtedly reward with extended cellaring.

95 Pt. My Favorite Neighbor Blanc San Luis Obispo 2020 (New!)

The Chardonnay-based 2020 Blanc has lush tropical fruits on the nose with accents of toast, almonds and sweet spice. The palate offers generous fruits, a sleek, polished texture, youthful new oak spices and expansive flavors on the long finish. This wine is a perfect spring white wine to be enjoyed now or year-round. Super classy!
