In 2023, our vineyard demonstrated remarkable adaptability, navigating through the year's meteorological challenges with stability and confidence. Chateau Giscours 2023 is a remarkable wine, beautifully balanced. It stands out with a lovely combination of ripe black fruits, exceptional volume and energy, as well as a great fullness of tannins. This constant quest for precision in the vineyard and in the cellars allows Giscours to transcend the demands of vintages such as the 2023, and to maintain its exceptional identity year after year. The Cabernet Sauvignon once again proves to be the undisputed grape variety of this vintage, offering a magnificent length on the palate and a typically Giscours saline finish.

Harvest Dates: September 5th to October 6th, 2023
Winemaking: Optical and manual sorting. Concrete and stainless steel tanks. Maceration for 35 days at 28 degrees C.
Aging: Aged in French oak barrels (50% new) for 17 months

Tasting Notes: The 2023 Giscours is a potent, brooding wine. Black cherry, plum, new leather, dried herbs, chocolate and gravel infuse the palate with notable depth and intensity. This has really shut down post-bottling. Giscours is usually much more charming in its youth. Today, the stress of a vintage marked by heat and low yields of just 30 hectoliters per hectare comes through in the wine's tannic profile and overall feel.

Tasting Notes: The purity of fruit is impressive. Aromas of blackberries, black currants, violets and a hint of stone follow through to a medium to full body, with integrated tannins that are solid and polished and a long finish. Sweet fruit at the with an intensity and richness. Chewy in a classic way from the grape tannins that give tannins. 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. Needs three or four years to come together. Better after 2028.

Tasting Notes: One of the better wines from the appellation kicks off with an aromatic display of flowers, smoke, truffle, blackberries, cherries, and forest leaves. Elegant, refined, and vibrant, there is a gorgeous sense of purity to the sweet, red berries with just a hint of cocoa that shows up at the end of the finish. The wine is a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2028-2047.

Tasting Notes: 2023 Giscours is deep, dark and intense, packed with fruit, cassis, cherries and fine tannins almost masked by the intense fruit. This is a very fine Giscours adding to the string of great wines this chateau has produced since the turn of the century. It should age well and have the potential for an even higher rating when everything melds together.

Tasting Notes: An impressive wine led by Cabernet Sauvignon, this has ripe tannins and a spice and black currant flavor. The wine's structure shows well with a firm core and a black pepper aroma. The wine is developing in a stately fashion, ready to drink from 2029.

Tasting Notes: The 2023 Giscours has turned out beautifully, unfurling in the glass with complex aromas of cherries, sweet berries, violets, undergrowth and rose petals. Medium- to full-bodied, it's exquisitely polished and layered, with sweet tannins, excellent mid-palate density and a penetrating finish. It's a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. Readers may remember that Giscours's old vines are frequently co-planted with younger replacements that have filled any gaps in the ranks over the years; so, blocks are now picked in two or three passages instead of all at once, with the younger vines picked first, something that helps to explain the quality of tannin attained in 2023.

Tasting Notes: One heck of an impressive 2023, the 2023 Chateau Giscours is a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc aged in 50% new French oak. Ripe red and blackcurrants, spring flowers, graphite, and smoked tobacco notes all emerge from the glass, with an almost chalky minerality in the background. It's concentrated, medium-bodied, and has a round, layered mouthfeel, ample mid-palate depth, and beautiful tannins. It reminds me of the 2019 with its complete, layered style, if not slightly more concentrated. Drink 2029-2049.

Tasting Notes: Smooth and charming, this has gorgeously pristine fruit - ripe and fleshy, well textured and not dry at all, more chewy giving roundness and amplitude to a vintage that doesn't lend itself to that. Refreshing, charming, lively and full of energy, this is great winemaking and lovely Margaux typicity. Tannins are amazing, this will be extremely enjoyable. Bravo.
