Wine Description
The Mansfield-Dunne 2017 Santa Lucia appellation Pinot Noir is our sixth appellation release and is made up of fruit from both our Peterson and Cortada Alta Vineyards.

Production
Handcrafted by renowned winemaker Ed Kurtzman, the Mansfield-Dunne 2017 Santa Lucia Highlands appellation Pinot was aged in French oak (42% new) for 11 months before bottling. Christmas spice leads into deep, brooding wild raspberry and lingonberry scents on the nose. With the new Cortada Alta Vineyard fruit in the mix in a bigger way, there is also a darker berry aspect to the aromas as well. This wine is reminiscent of a young Vosne Romanee. Vibrant fruit is balanced with a silky smooth, velvety texture and fine acidity on the palate. Oak intensity, vanilla cream, and spice build for a long, deep finish. This 2017 is already drinking well and should continue to improve through at least 2025.

Dried cranberries, peppercorns, sagebrush and turned earth aromas show on the nose of this appellation blend. The palate is layered with bay leaf, eucalyptus and menthol tones, set against a dried dark-cherry backdrop.

Vivid red. Fresh red berries, candied rose and hints of cinnamon and allspice on the incisive nose. Brisk and racy on entry and then more fleshy in the midpalate, offering gently sweet raspberry and cherry flavors and a touch of spicecake. Shows very good clarity and lift on a long, focused finish given shape by youthfully chewy tannins.
