2014 Peterson Vineyard Pinot Noir
About
The Mansfield-Dunne 2014 Peterson Vineyard Pinot Noir is our fifth vineyard designate release from our estate vineyard and is now on library status and drinking very well. Handcrafted by renowned winemaker Ed Kurtzman, the Mansfield-Dunne 2014 Peterson Vineyard Pinot Noir contains a mix of all 5 clones planted in the vineyard (828, Pommard (05), 667, 777, and 115). The wine was aged in French oak (50% new) for 15 months before bottling. The nose is a combination of clove, toast, wood strawberries, cinnamon, and wild mushrooms. With a palate weight similar to the 2012 Peterson, this 2014 delivers a dense core of ripe and spicy fruit that is framed by moderate acidity and firm tannin. There's a nice flavor of French oak on the long finish. Give this wine until late 2016 to start to open up and enjoy this through 2022.

Clove, red cherry, eucalyptus and anise show on the classic nose of this single-vineyard bottling that is both minty and fruity. The palate is light and lithe but with grippy tension and loads of acidic energy, producing flavors from cherry and cranberry to bay leaf and eucalyptus.

Bright red. Assertive raspberry, cherry and candied rose aromas, complicated by peppery spice and woodsmoke accents. Juicy and focused in the mouth, offering lively smoke-tinged red fruit flavors and a hint of bitter chocolate. Shows impressive energy and clarity on the clinging finish, where the raspberry and smoke notes echo.

The 2014 Pinot Noir Peterson Vineyard was completely destemmed and spent 15 months in 50% new French oak. It's a nicely balanced, medium-bodied, savory, yet textured effort that offers lots of spice, chocolate, black cherry and licorice aromas and flavors. Drink it through 2022.

Fresh, clean, toasty oak notes are a nice introduction, turning trim and elegant, with medium-weight red berry, spice and dusty, gravelly earth flavors. Drink now. - JL
