The Ripasso style's advantage is its role as a 'middle road' between Amarone's opulence and Valpolicella's lighter simplicity, creating a more food-friendly weight that retains much of the dried fruit's complex character. Villa de Moreschi's 2018 Classico Superiore bottling is a fine example, elevating a humble BLT just as well as gnocchi in a creamy mushroom sauce. Make sure to collect a few bottles of this tasty Italian red while the discount is deep and before inventory depletes!

Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore DOCG
Vineyards in the heart of the Valpolicella area, around the villages of Marano, Negrar, Fumane, Sant'Ambrogio, and San Pietro in Cariano.
Corvina, Rondinella, Corvinone
It is obtained using the ripasso technique, which is traditional in Valpolicella. Fermentation is carried out at a controlled temperature of 25 degrees C for 12 days. A few months later (usually in January), the operation known as ripasso is performed. The wine is left in contact with the skins of the dried grapes used for the production of Amarone. In this way, the resulting wine gains greater structure and complexity.
It matures in large traditional Slavonian oak casks before a further period of bottle aging.
Intense fruity notes of wild berry, together with suggestions of spices. In the mouth, it is dry, with structure. It has a rich taste of red fruit and elegant spicy tones.
Serving Suggestions: A versatile wine, which can be drunk throughout a meat-based meal. It also goes very well with moderately mature cheeses.
Serving Temperature: 18-20 degrees C

The 2016 Ripasso opens to aromas of sweet cherries, plums and red berries which mingle with wildflower petals, spices, river rocks. On the palate this is medium-bodied with wonderful overall balance between its sweet fruits and bright acidity which provides a wonderful sense of freshness [that] persists through the finish. This is a lovely Ripasso that will be accessible early on, but has the potential to evolve with some short-term cellaring.
