A wine that is hard not to love, it’s got such a beautiful taste profile and has a superior pedigree. Dominio IV is a micro-production boutique winery founded by Patrick Reuter. His pride and joy from the Dundee Hills is nicknamed “the Violet Hour” because it has a pleasing essence of violets on the palate. It’s from his Bella Vida Vineyard in the Dundee Hills appellation of Oregon’s Willamette Valley - home to exceptional Pinot Noir. I tasted this wine side by side with the very nice 2012 vintage, and the 2014 is the more special wine. Savory and hedonistically fruit-forward with black raspberry front and center, violets, blueberries, nutmeg spice and dark chocolate. This classy Pinot Noir is nicely focused with a rousing finish that completes the sumptuous taste profile. It’s one of those Pinots that tastes great now, but will hold up for many years and gain even more complexity. Only 318 cases were produced.

Patrick Reuter 
Patrick Reuter is the winemaker and co-owner of Dominio IV. Patrick learned about winemaking while working harvests in Chile, New Zealand, Napa, Burgundy, and Oregon. He graduated from University of California Davis where he studied terroir while his wife, Leigh, studied viticulture. Patrick started the Dominio IV winery with Leigh in 2002 and has been working with the fruits of Viognier, Syrah, Pinot Noir and Tempranillo ever since.
 
Story
Planted in the mid 1990’s, the Bella Vida Vineyard is in the heart of the original Oregon Pinot Noir vineyards. These deep red Jory soils give a plush fullness to their wines and typically show notes of salted caramel, black teas, and the red fruits that hit darker notes of black raspberry in 2014.

Biodynamic™ farmers seek to fashion their farms likewise as self-regulating, bio-diverse ecosystems in order to bring health to the land and to their local communities." At Dominio Wines, we practice Biodynamic™ farming to ensure that the land which feeds our grapes remains viable and fruitful for future generations. We use the "Preparation 500" to promote soil microbial growth and keep the soils alive and generating a healthy ecosystem. We also mist preparation "501 Silica" on the vines to bring light and heat into the vineyard. "500" and "501" are like the yin and yang of Biodynamics™. They balance each other and are necessary for establishing the Biodynamic™ farm. Teas made from plants such as horsetail, stinging nettle, and chamomile are applied to illicit a response from the vines. Compost is made on the farm and spread over the vineyard to improve soil fertility and benefit soil microbial life.
