Clarendon Hills is a small family-run winery based in Clarendon, South Australia. Founded by biochemist Roman Bratasiuk in 1990, the story of Clarendon Hills is one of passion, dedication, and commitment to exceptional wine. Though never trained as a winemaker, Roman combined his scientific knowledge and artistic expression in the winery to create the single varietal wine portfolio of Clarendon Hills. About the Wine
Our Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah opens with intense aromas of roast meat, black cherry, and licorice. The palate is elegant yet full of vibrancy with a long, aromatically scented structure. Velvety tannins and a balanced acidity ensure immediate satisfaction.

Winemaker Notes
The grapes for our Bakers Gully Syrah were handpicked from 15-year-old, dry-grown vines. Following destemming, the grapes were fermented whole berry using wild yeasts to increase the grape's varietal essence and minimize bitter tannin extract. All pressings were returned to the barrels for 18 months of aging in a majority new, tight-grained French oak and a balance of one- to four-year-old French oak. This wine was bottled without fining or filtration.

Full crimson-purple; in mainstream Clarendon Hills style, medium- to full-bodied, with obvious French oak on the bouquet and running through the textured palate; spicy black fruits and a touch of licorice make the running; alcohol and dusty tannins have been held in restraint.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 Bakers Gully Vineyard Syrah presents aromatic red currant and red cherry notes intermingled with suggestions of green peppers, earth and bark. Full-bodied with a medium to firm level of slightly astringent tannins, the lively acid carries through a long, slightly herbal finish. Approachable now, it should drink best to 2020+.
