Vintage Notes
After the harvest, a dry autumn sets in. Then, in January, as much rain falls in the month as within the entire year. The mechanical work is complicated, as well as the pruning. Vine growth slows down, but at the blistering end of April, it explodes again, with soils remaining very moist. Slight attacks of downy mildew are observed on leaves, but nothing abnormal or worrying. We remain vigilant regarding the violent attacks of fungus that certain areas of Bordeaux are experiencing. The dry summer puts a stopper on the threat, but the vineyard transpiration is higher than normal, which Cabernet Sauvignon often suffers from more frequently. The harvests are calm, with attention to sorting redoubled and with some berries affected despite everything. The result, however, is dazzling. Camensac again marks its progress towards an increasingly assertive and delicate signature this year.

Tasting Notes
The wine is brilliant and limpid. The color is a dark garnet. The nose is clean and straight. Before stirring, notes of currants and raspberries. After swirling comes the floral aromas of fresh rose, light woodiness, and fine vanilla. The attack is straightforward. The palate shows very refined tannins in a supple envelope that perfects the mid-palate. The fruity and floral aromas are confirmed. The harmonious wine at this stage of evolution is a promise of delicacy. The finish is very long and evokes a sensation of tasty currant jelly. Wait until 2025 to savor, with aging potential until 2045.

This estate is regaining its rightful place in the prestigious crus classes. Richly textured, this latest release shows luscious blackberry fruits and layers of firm tannins. The wine will age well, so wait to drink until 2026.

Lovely deep ruby colour with excellent oak finesse on the aromatics, not overpowering but adding layers of smoke against cassis and black cherry fruits. You can find both nuance and complexity in this wine. This is gourmet as it opens with black chocolate and liquorice also. Clear interest and potential for ageing.

The 2018 de Camensac has retained its attractive aromatics, needing just a little coaxing to reveal blackberry, bilberry, light marine scents and those iris petals that I remarked upon out of barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with good backbone and well-judged acidity. I admire the substance of this de Camensac, and there is wonderful salinity on the finish. This comes recommended and I can see it aging well.
2018 Chateau de Camensac (Haut-Medoc)
Points: 90
Much better in the bottle than in the barrel, the wine is medium bodied, with a cedar, tobacco and red currant profile. Forward, soft, fresh, fruity and with a classic lean to its chewy, spicy red fruit finish. This is best vintage of Chateau de Camensac I have ever tasted.

Tasted blind. Slightly dead-looking crimson. Spicy edge to the nose. Sweet and a little tarty. Because of the oak perhaps? Not quite refreshing enough.
