A mix of plum, cherry, tobacco, tar and oak spice flavors are enmeshed with dense tannins in this muscular, lively red, which stays focused through the lingering finish. This tips toward the tannic side, so give it time. Best from 2026 through 2039.

Chestnut and dried strawberry, chamois leather and rose hip. Rangy as a whippet. There is something about this wine that makes me think of bony bums on pews in cold churches with old stone floors and dust and incense. Tannins pressing like earnest fingers on prayer books. More penance than glory. More hip bones than roses. But it has a certain charm. The wine is an elegant, unshouty accompaniment to food. And that soft whisper of fruit compels you to lean in. (TC)
