Barolo Ravera DOCG 2020
Winemaker's Note
A Barolo with remarkable longevity, freshness, and body, thanks to the microclimate and the soils of the Additional Geographic Mention (MGA) Ravera, in the municipality of Novello. Elegant and bright.
Vineyard
Ravera, municipality of Novello. Soil of Tortonian origin, made up of laminated Sant'Agata fossil marl. Calcareous, clayey and very deep, 400 m above sea level with southeasterly exposure. Typical espalier vineyards and Guyot pruning, average plant density of 4,500 vines per hectare. The age of the vineyards varies from 20 to 35 years.
Wine Details
Grape: 100% Nebbiolo
Harvest: By hand, into crates in the middle of October, when phenolic ripening is complete
Yield: 8.000 kg per hectare
Vinification
Separate processing of the grapes picked in different parts of the vineyard. Destemming and temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks, the fermentation starter is prepared with indigenous yeast. Pumping over and delestage in variable manner following the course of fermentation. Long post-fermentative skin contact with submerged cap method (around 50 days). Drawing off and spontaneous malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks.
Aging
38 months, 20 of which are in big barrels. Subsequent aging in concrete tanks and bottling in July 2023. Eight months' bottle aging before release for sale in April 2024.
Tasting Notes
Brilliant garnet red color. On the nose, notes of red fruits give way to fresh vegetal and citrus notes. In the mouth, it is harmonious and elegant with well-balanced tannins. Pair with tasty main courses featuring boiled, braised or roast meats, game, and mature cheeses. For the most curious tasters, pairing with dark chocolate is interesting.

Dried sweet spices, orange peel, iron and asphalt on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied on the palate with chewy tannins. Nice Barolo austerity and structure. Drink or hold.

The youthful ruby-colored 2020 Barolo Ravera is sunny and pure with aromas of candied raspberries, sweet balsamic herbs, licorice candies, and crushed roses. The palate turns a bit more earthy and savory, with notes of dusty earth, citrus peel, and a clean finish. This is a more modest Ravera, but it has a good deal of charm. Drink 2024-2030.

Novello. Lustrous mid ruby. Quite tight on the nose with savoury minerally hints. With aeration pure raspberry emerges from the glass. Cool raspberry fruit on the palate filled out with clayey tannins. Very long, gentle and fresh. (WS)
