The 2021 Havens Black and Blue is produced from grapes grown in some of the best vineyards spanning the San Francisco Bay to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. California varietals that are often forgotten gems but have been established performers for generations showcase the interaction between soils and sunny days, allowing for intense flavor development.

Vintage
Winemakers across California predicted that the 2021 vintage was among the best in recent memory. Picking began early in many regions, including the North Coast, by a week or more ahead of average. Central Coast appellations experienced a cool year, prompting a later-than-average start. The weather was excellent this year, with mild temperatures at the end of the growing season.

Tasting Notes
Its dark purple hue catches the eye, and aromas of wild strawberry practically leap from the glass, with a strong layer of spicy oak from the first sniff through the lingering finish. Ripe black cherry and blackberry flavors fill the palate. Moderate tannins create an excellent structure for the lush mouthfeel that will develop beautifully in the cellar. Best served with heartier fare, such as a richly marbled steak.

Tasting Notes: This wine is rich and dense. Aromas of blackberry pie, baked plums, violets, engulf the nose, while sauntering into fresh bay leaf, clove, green bell pepper, cocoa powder, ripe blueberry on the palate. The finish is silky, shifting into gripping tannins. Decant and drink until 2032.
