Saint-Estephe
Background
Chateau Meyney was one of the first sites in Saint-Estephe planted with vines. In 1662, it was a convent mentioned in records under the names Couvent des Feuillants or Prieure des Couleys. It belonged to the Feuillants monks. Today, the estate stretches over some of the best hilltops above the Gironde Estuary. The river, alongside the first rows of vines, makes for a majestic, serene landscape. The estate belonged to the Luetkens family for several generations and was then acquired by Mr. Desire Cordier in 1919. In 2004, CA Grands Crus, a subsidiary of the Groupe Credit Agricole, acquired Chateau Meyney with a determination to strengthen the potential of this outstanding cru. Meyney benefits from an exceptional site, a unique terroir, and a rich and long history dating back to the 16th century, making it an outstanding Medoc estate.
Vineyard Details
Location: The vineyard overlooks the Gironde Estuary from its hillside, reaching a 20-meter altitude. The presence of the estuary protects the estate from frosts.
Soils: Garonne gravels and clay-limestone. It also benefits from a vein of blue clay in the subsoil at a depth of around 2.6 meters. The vein is 3 meters thick.
Average Vine Age: 35-40 years
Production
Following hand-picking and selection of grapes on the vine, the grapes are carefully sorted again at the winery, passing through a new optical sorting machine. These are then fermented in vats of varying capacities, which allow us to adapt to each batch. The fermentation starts after a few days of cool soaking. After fermentation, maceration continues for an average of 30 days before the wine is run off. Part of the wine goes through malolactic fermentation in new barrels. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 16 to 18 months, with 30% to 40% new oak every year.
Tasting Notes
Chateau Meyney has aromas of cedar, spices, and blackcurrant. It is made in a thick, rich, and full-bodied style, with plenty of classy and layered plummy fruit flavors and a firm enough structure to carry it through.

Tasting Notes: This wine has density and some firm tannins. A spectacular vineyard that faces the Gironde estuary, this estate gives a rich wine that needs some serious aging. Drink this wine, with its black-currant fruits and solid tannins from 2027.

Tasting Notes: A refined and complex expression for the vintage with sweet red chili pepper, cassis, red plums, pencil shavings and a cedary edge. Medium to full body with silky, fine tannins and a lengthy, polished finish. An overachiever here that shows finesse and sophistication. Already a joy to drink now, but should age nicely in the next decade.

Tasting Notes: Smooth and gently lively, there is nice bite to this, the fruit is there in the background, cool blueberries, cola and liquorice while the tannins give a soft tension and grip. It's well made, clean and precise. Nothing too demonstrative but well made with focus and length if not weight and density.
