Tasting Notes: The 2020 Brunello from Sassodisole opens with heady aromas of underbrush, new leather, juniper berry, eucalyptus and spice. Refined and savory, the elegantly structured palate features ripe red cherry, crushed strawberry, star anise and blood orange set against firm, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it bright. Drink 2028-2035. Abv: 14%

Tasting Notes: The nose is earthy, umami and sweet all at once, with aromas of damp soil, crushed herbs and rocks, black olives and blackberries. Sweet, ripe blackberries and cherries define the palate, while undertones of citrus, more herbs, salt and pepper provide balance, and taut tannins create structure.

Tasting Notes: The 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino has a deep red/brick color and an expressive and ripe bouquet with a hint of rusticity, offering notes of baked red cherries, cinnamon-spiced cranberry cocktail, saddle leather, and fresh sage. Medium to full-bodied, it's open and appealing on the palate, with supple tannins and even acidity, and it remains pure through its rather long and sustained finish. I'm very impressed with this wine as well as with the direction this winery is moving in. This is likely going to have a wide window for enjoyment over the next 10 years.

Tasting Notes: For owner Roberto Terzuoli, keeping his clay-based soils well aerated to encourage water absorption was key to maintaining balanced vigour throughout the heat of August. He harvested at the end of September, giving a full 35 days of maceration. Favouring purity and exuberance over sheer complexity, the resulting wine presents an engaging mix of red cherry, tangerine, allspice and wet clay. Supple yet well built tannins provide a suitable frame, and there's a spaciousness, liveliness and underlying juiciness, all of which makes this very drinkability [sic]. Good value.

Tasting Notes: Layered nose, offering blood orange, coffee powder, violets and cherries. The palate is supple and juicy with medium body, yet a bit chalkier on the finish due to the austere tannins. Try from 2026.

Tasting Notes: The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino is smoky and savory in the glass, mixing aromas of grilled herbs and seared meats with dried black cherries and crushed rocks. This is soft-textured and round with ripe wild berry fruit scents offset by a hint of sour citrus and spice. The 2020 finishes with admirable length and potency, leaving a framework of fine tannins that add a lovely punctuation.
