Climate Condition
The 2019 vintage is likely to be remembered as one of the most homogeneous and high-quality vintages in recent years. During the summer months, we recorded average temperatures with fresher nights. We had 6 significant rainfalls that helped avoid hydric stress and created the perfect conditions to start the ripening season. We started the harvest slightly later than usual. We picked the first Merlot on 6th September, then in order: Syrah, Sangiovese, Grenache, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon, ending with the Petit Verdot. The weather conditions were excellent. We took our time to select and harvest each grape from each parcel in its most harmonious balance of freshness and ripeness.
Production
All the different plots and varieties are vinified separately in concrete tanks and wooden truncated cones, with slow fermentations and soft extractions. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine selected for Caiarossa is blended. Then it ages approximately 14 months in French oak barriques.

Tasting Notes:Â This 2019 [Caiarossa] is a fascinating blend [...]. It has a deep purple, ruby color and a hedonistic, dense, fragrant nose of irises and violets, smoke and Mediterranean macchia. There is a lovely nervosity and tension in this vibrant and juicy wine. Though it feels a little less silky than the Aria di Caiarossa, it does have a wonderful texture, and it has a lovely freshness and vivacity.

Tasting Notes: This is an intense, full-bodied yet very well-balanced and polished red with velvety, firm and caressing tannins. Ripe black plums, blueberries, chocolate, mocha, sweet spice and dried lavender. Some oyster shells, too. Layered and full of character. Creamy at the end from the polished tannins. 26% Syrah, 24% Cabernet Franc, 23% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 4% Sangiovese and 2% Grenache. [...] Drink from 2026.

This [...] wine is full and generous to the palate, yet it never feels heavy or too extracted. The wine is balanced and fresh with thick layers of dark fruit, crushed stone, tobacco and exotic spice.

Tasting Notes: Flagship Caiarossa is a blend of no less than seven varieties grown on the estate: [...]. The result in 2019 is a concentrated, intense red that's fresh and salty, rich yet vertical and light on its feet. Sapid red, black and blue fruits sit on a stony mid-palate and hang on through the vibrant finish. Lovely.

Tasting Notes: This red is smooth, yet with no shortage of structure, setting up the flavors of plum, blackberry, black pepper and toasty oak. Well-balanced, with a persistent aftertaste of fruit and spices. Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese and Grenache. Better than previously reviewed. Best from 2025 through 2036.
