Less productive vines often yield higher-quality fruit, like those supplying Clarendon Hills' 2011 Sandown Cabernet Sauvignon. Pipe tobacco, subtle raspberry, and blackberry blossom aromas signal the imminent bramble notes, supporting tannins, and evolved wild berry flavors on the palate. After decanting, indications of the wine's maturity emerge in the lengthy finish, creating an excellent pairing opportunity with game meats or dal makhani. 2011 Sandown Cabernet Sauvignon
Winery Description
Clarendon Hills is a small family-run winery based in Clarendon, South Australia. Founded by biochemist Roman Bratasiuk in 1990, the story of Clarendon Hills is one of passion, dedication, and commitment to exceptional wine. Though never trained as a winemaker, Roman combined his scientific knowledge and artistic expression in the winery to create the single varietal wine portfolio of Clarendon Hills. Striving for pure vineyard and varietal expression, Clarendon Hills is dedicated to complex wines that rival the best.
Wine Notes
Planted in Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale, during the 1940s, the Sandown Cabernet Sauvignon site is populated by a rare pre-phylloxera Chateau Reynella Cabernet Sauvignon clone that expresses the ancient Blewitt Springs terroir with opulence and majesty. Low-yielding vines produce a powerful yet refined, elegantly composed, classic Cabernet Sauvignon. The palate has dark-berry flavors, carried on strapping, solid tannins, and a fresh, clear-cut finish with impressive core power.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2011 Sandown Cabernet Sauvignon has a leathery, medicinal nose to begin with followed by an underlying core of warm black plums, pencil shavings, oregano and cassis. The medium-bodied palate is just a little lean and austere, with a medium level of astringent tannins and crisp acid, finishing a little bitter. Drink it until 2022+.
