Fourth-generation Walla Wallan Justin Wylie grew up watching the wine industry blossom in his backyard. Inspired, he started making wine at a young age in his garage and eventually founded Va Piano Vineyards in 2003.
Rosebud Vineyard is one of just 20 vineyards in Wahluke Slope - home to one of the driest, warmest AVAs in Washington state that shows its great potential and diverse terroir.
This 2021 single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon bottling features luscious blackberry and red plum notes encompassing fresh tobacco, sage, and green tea nuances in a wine that is sure to develop with each year.

Vintage Notes
2021 was a warm growing season for Washington state, marked by a record-shattering heat in late June, leading to historically low harvest yields. Bud break began at the very beginning of April, ahead of historical averages. At the end of June, a heat dome descended upon the West Coast. It shattered all previous temperature records. The vineyards fared well, but led to a significant reduction in berry and cluster size. Veraison began in mid-July, with temperatures cooling in September and October, allowing for extended hang time. While overall crops were much smaller, we were very pleased with the quality. Brix was slightly elevated; however, acid held on very well, considering the overall warmth of the growing season. What this all means is that 2021 wines are balanced and delicious!
Tasting Notes
The beauty of the 2021 Rosebud Cabernet Sauvignon is in its balance and restraint. Primary fruits include red currants and brambly blackberries, which are present but not overwhelming. In the background are subtle notes of leather and earth. Finally, delicate and dusty tannins linger on the finish. Give this young wine a chance to open up by decanting before drinking.
