A direct clone of Tuscany's famous Sangiovese grape, Brunello is named for the brownish (bruno) tint of its skin. It's the only grape permitted in Brunello di Montalcino, and it produces intensely aromatic red wines that are known for their tart, black cherry and floral (violet) notes, with chocolatey tannins and a sturdy structure that can age for decades.

96 WE! Le Gode Brunello Di Montalcino Vigna Montosoli 2018 - Made in a small family-owned winery with just 15 acres dedicated to making organic Brunello. The hill of Montosoli is regarded as a Grand Cru area of Montalcino and the 2018 Vigna Montosoli is earthy and herbal, with black cherry, Earl Grey tea and licorice on the nose and finish.

Celestino Pecci Brunello di Montalcino 2017- Celesino Pecci has been in operation since 1968 and is still family-run. Their 2017 Brunello is aged in neutral oak for 40 months and then in bottle for six more, and is a round, juicy mouthful of black cherry, cola and vanilla bean. Scored a 94 by James Suckling in 2022
