Following his father's footsteps, Nicolas Potel founded Domaine de Bellene two decades ago with little more than a few parcels and long-trusted growing partners. Since then, the estate's vineyard holdings have expanded to 25 hectares, which represent classic appellation terroirs, including precious old vines. Background
Nicolas Potel established Domaine de Bellene in 2005, starting with a few vineyard parcels from his family and several from growers he had worked with for many years. His goal was to follow in the footsteps of his beloved father, Gerard Potel, and control all aspects of wine production from vineyard to market, creating pure, balanced wines that are clear expressions of their classic Burgundy terroirs. The goal is to achieve this in a way that respects the region's deep traditions while looking to the future, by working closely with nature to foster a beneficial impact on the environment. Potel's vineyards now extend to 25 ha, of which 8 ha are in the Cote Chalonnaise.

Vintage Details
2022 is another vintage of ripeness and very good quality grapes. The grapes were far from the smallest, but their concentration remains unquestioned with consistent color. The quantity, ripeness, and ease of extraction of color and tannins for the reds have been obvious. As for quality, it appears exceptionally good, with concentrated fruit character, aromatics, and structure.

Tasting Notes: Black cherry and blackberry fruit is shaded by earth and sweet spice notes in this round, luscious red. Firms up, yet the tannins are pliable, and this picks up a touch of fresh herbs on the finish. Best from 2027 through 2038.

Tasting Notes: Ripe aromas speak primarily of dark cherry, humus and plenty of warm earth. There is good volume to the rich yet super-sleekly textured middleweight flavors thanks to the relatively fine-grained tannins supported the dusty and less austere finale that is better-balanced.
