After several years of August harvests, 2021 marks the return to a late September harvest. At Domaine de Bellene, harvest is an entirely manual process. 2021 was a wet year, with a severe spring frost episode. The harvest was of very good quality but low yield due to the negative temperatures in April. The wines of the 2021 vintage are delicious, round, well-balanced, with aromas of red fruits for the Pinot Noirs and white-fleshed fruits for the Chardonnays. Aging in oak barrels brings woody notes to the reds and toasted hazelnut flavors to the whites. Their elegance allows these wines to be drunk young or after aging in the cellar.

In Les Boulardes, the vines were planted with Pinot Noir. The soil is cultivated mechanically, through plowing and scraping, and requires meticulous work. Aux Montagnes provides high-quality yields. The soil is cultivated mechanically. The crop yields small, compact, and concentrated grapes, resulting in a great and healthy harvest.

Tasting Notes: Once again there is sufficient reduction present to render the nose impossible to assess. By contrast, there is excellent freshness and punch to the racy and detailed middleweight flavors that flash moderate austerity on the compact, serious and acceptably long finish. Like several wines in the range, this would benefit from having better overall depth so a few years of patience should be beneficial.
