2016 Resonance Vineyard Pinot Noir

Background
This is Maison Louis Jadot's first project in Oregon. This estate-grown single vineyard Pinot Noir is the signature expression of our Resonance Vineyard.

Vineyard Details
Resonance Vineyard is the heart of our project, boasting the oldest soil in the Yamhill-Carlton area of Oregon's Willamette Valley, which has unique minerality. Planted in 1981 on south-facing slopes in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA with three original clonal selections - Pommard, Dijon 777, and Wadenswil - all own-rooted (ungrafted) and phylloxera-free, it offers a pure expression of place. The vineyard sits on a convex portion of a low, west-east oriented ridge emerging out of the Coast Range and lies at an altitude of 80 to 150 meters above sea level. Soils are primarily Willakenzie (old sedimentary deposits) and Yamhill (ancient submarine basaltic soil). The vineyard benefits from dry farming, ensuring a qualitative yield that highlights this exceptional site's true character. Our Resonance Vineyard Pinot Noir reveals the immense character and "somewhereness" of this historic property.

Vintage Details
The growing season was especially warm and dry in 2016, giving perfect conditions for maturity. The grapes were ripe, and the flavors were well developed. We began harvesting the grapes at the beginning of September. The maceration revealed a nice concentration and intensity in the wines. 2016 is well balanced with nice aromatic complexity and a harmonious tannin structure.

Production
Our Pinot Noir grapes are handpicked just steps from the winery and hand-sorted upon arrival. During elevage, we control the juice with a light touch honed over 170 years of winemaking in Burgundy, boosting each vintage to achieve its most natural elegance and complexity.

Tasting Notes
The dark and bright color of this wine is a perfect illustration of the immense character of Resonance Vineyard. With an intense yet subtle nose of black cherry, wild blueberries, blackberries, clove, noble wood, and violet fragrance, the wine expresses impressive depth and concentration. This offers a balanced structure with full potential.

Tasting Notes: Pale to medium ruby-purple, the 2016 Resonance Vineyard Pinot Noir opens with violet, crushed blueberries, boysenberry, Earl Grey tea leaves, warm earth and cinnamon stick aromas. It’s medium-bodied and intense, with oodles of ripe, nuanced fruits, expertly framed and fresh, with a long, perfumed finish. This is delicious! A restrained Pinot but still very generous with its fruit.

Tasting Notes: Sleekly complex and steely, with lively minerality. This is not showing all its cards yet, but offers plenty of dark raspberry, cola and spice flavors. The tannins are fine and polished. Drink now through 2026.

Tasting Notes: Still in the early going for Jadot's new Oregon project, this marks a step up from the previous vintage. Lushly fruity, it mixes floral aromatics with ripe red berries and cherries. A touch of cocoa powder mirrors the impact of 15 months in 30% new French oak. Barrel toast and cookie dough flavors accent the finish, which firms up with balancing acidity.

Tasting Notes: Vivid ruby color. High-pitched red and blue fruit and floral pastille scents pick up hints of toasty oak and minerals with air. Fresh and energetic on the palate, offering concentrated black raspberry and boysenberry flavors and a bracing, refreshingly bitter suggestion of cherry pit. Finishes silky and appealingly sweet, with harmonious tannins, a hint of vanilla and strong, spicy persistence. (aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, 30% of them new)
