Vineyard
This Chardonnay comes from a sixth-generation Dutch family farm in Clarksburg, appropriately named "The Home Ranch," as the family has lived here since settling in the area. Hot days towards the end of the season had this fruit coming in by early August. Rich alluvial soils and balanced crop loads led to happy vines that produced a bright, fresh style of Chardonnay.

Production
The fruit was foot-tread, then pressed lightly and allowed to cold-settle over two days. After fermentation in neutral Burgundy barrels, the wine was racked off the lees, returned to the same barrels, and allowed to rest for one year, with weekly lees stirring throughout the first two months.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes: [...] Grapes for this wine are grown at Home Ranch. The fruit is high toned, offering unctuous yellow apple, melon and slight baking spice on the nose. The flavors are fresh Bartlett pear, guava, dried herbs and tactile tannins on the finish. Pair with roasted butterfish in lemon-caper butter sauce.
