Vintage
A winter period with much lower than average rainfall. A spell of spring frost in which Beauregard was spared damage, largely thanks to the vines' advantageous geographical situation on the plateau. Homogeneous flowering of one single generation of bunches, which made up the first wine. Veraison began with water stress, but it didn't shut down the vines. Slower end of ripening phase, preserving the aromatic freshness and the acidity in the berries, while enhancing the tannic potential. Ideal conditions for our Cabernet Franc, which, without any climatic shocks, reached perfect levels of concentration and balance. Harvest from September 13th to October 8th, 2017. Manual harvesting plot by plot, even intra-plot.

Production
Manual sorting, high-frequency de-stemmer, and laser optical sorting line. The grapes were transferred to a cold room to bring their temperature down to 6 degrees C. The gravity-flow vat cellar received the grapes from 3-hl mobile bins, conveyed by a lift. V22 pure concrete tronconical vats with integrated temperature control accommodated the crop, individual plot by plot. Alcoholic fermentation with temperature regulation between 26 degrees and 30 degrees C according to each vat's potential and the desired tannin extraction. Vatting period of 3 to 5 weeks. Malolactic fermentation in new barrels for the best Merlot and Cabernet Franc vats. 50% of the first wine is aged for 18 months in barrels from seven different coopers.

Tasting Notes: Dark and winey, with tobacco, bittersweet cocoa and tar notes wrapped around a core of black currant and fig fruit. Grippy from start to finish, but showing cut and drive, this is a very grounded Pomerol that will need some time to unwind. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2022 through 2040.

Tasting Notes: A fine-tannined, pretty red with some chocolate powder and hazelnuts to the berries and wet earth. Medium to full body. Integrated tannins. Creamy and refined with lovely texture. Showing newly found finesse and length. Drink or hold.

Tasting Notes: Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Beauregard is slightly muted to begin, offering up subtle scents of warm blueberries, stewed plums and cherry preserves plus touches of dried roses, black tea and cigar box. Medium-bodied, the palate has a lovely soft texture and plenty of expressive red and black fruits, finishing long and perfumed.

Tasting Notes: The 2017 Beauregard is a dark, powerful wine. Black fruit, chocolate, spice, espresso, new oak and licorice give the 2017 an impression of virile power that comes through in the wine's rich, unctuous feel as well. There is not a lot of subtlety here, but the 2017 is nicely balanced in this style. I would prefer to drink it over the near to medium term.

Tasting Notes: An extremely unusual blend because of the frost that really hammered the Merlot. This is perhaps a little overly tight and austere, but they have carefully controlled the extraction and there is a lovely violet edge to the nose that becomes clear in the glass, along with spice and chocolate shavings. A sculpted, subtle feel overall, doesn't jump out of the glass but definitely has its place.

Tasting Notes: This estate has turned out a beautiful, pleasure-bent 2017 that shines in the vintage. Lots of blackcurrants, chocolate, and roasted herbs notes define the bouquet and it hits the palate with a wealth of fruit, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and outstanding overall balance and charm. It drops off slightly on the finish, yet it's nevertheless a delicious, beautiful Pomerol. Drink it over the coming 10-15 years.

Tasting Notes: 91-93. Barrel Sample. This is an attractive, perfumed wine, with generous tannins and blackberry fruits. The acidity of the vintage is very present and contrasts with the firm structure in the background. Drink this wine from 2023.

Tasting Notes: With plums and chocolate on the nose, this medium-bodied wine is headfirst, lithe, smooth and fresh. Medium-bodied and open, the focus is on its sweet red fruits, soft tannins and forward nature.

Tasting Notes: From a difficult vintage which was hit by a significant frost, the team at Beauregard turned out a wine blending [...] Merlot with [...] Cabernet Franc, the proportion of the latter variety well above the norm for this property. I find the nose expressive with some attractively polished fruit redolent of dried blackberries, with threads of tobacco and perfumed olive, and a toasty edge. The palate continues with a sweet, poised and fresh attack, with more dried-fruit character, all plum and currants, supported by a rather swish grip of powdery tannins. This is a good surprise for this vintage. Poured from magnum.

Tasting Notes: Tasted blind. Deep ruby garnet. Spicy, earthy fruit on the nose. Structured and rich, with chewy, somewhat arresting tannins. Against this there is a hit of sweet wood spice. A bit flashy, but there is good fruit at the core to support the make-up. (TP)
