The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, like our 2016 vintage, comes from blocks A3 and H3, which have the oldest vines on the estate. We hand-selected the best barrels from each block that were aged in Taransaud and Darnajou, which are our go-to barrels, adding another level of dimension to the wine.

Winemaking and Aging
Five-day cold soak, fermented for 16-18 days. Free-run and pressed juice are then combined and put into barrels without settling. Barrel aging in 100% new French oak consisting of Darnajou and Taransaud barrels

Tasting Notes
Midnight purple in color, there is no mistaking that this wine means business from the get-go. Amplified aromas of blackberry, creme de cassis, graham cracker, and creosote are so pure and delineated that they seem otherworldly. These elements are combined with a palate awash with waves of dark fruit, red licorice, and hints of dark chocolate, intensified by subtle natural acidity that is smooth but presents fine tannins. The power of this vintage is tamed by the subtle touch of natural winemaking, and allows it to flow seemingly forever in harmony. Enjoy early in its life with a short decant, or age it 8 to 12 years to bring out further complexities and nuances.

Tasting Notes: Slightly better, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a barrel selection and offers similar dark, pure fruits as well as lots of spicy, graphite nuances, medium to full body, a touch of background oak, and building yet ripe, polished tannins. It’s another beautifully balanced wine that can be drunk today or cellared for 10-15 years.

Tasting Notes: Attractive blueberry and currant aromas and flavors with a medium body, firm and fine tannins and a fruity finish. Subtle and polished. Drink now.

Tasting Notes: The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is loaded with inky dark fruit, leather, chocolate, spice and copious new oak. There is plenty of richness and concentration, but the style is pushed, especially in this vintage, where richness was not hard to come by. I slightly prefer the straight Rutherford Cabernet, which has a bit better balance.
