By Chateau Segur de Cabanac
2022 Single Estate Saint-Estephe
Producer Notes
Chateau Segur de Cabanac is a historic estate of Saint-Estephe, rooted in the legacy of the Segur family, whose influence in the Medoc dates back to the 16th century and is associated with some of the region's most iconic properties. Today, the estate belongs to the Delon family, Medoc winegrowers for seven generations, and also the owners of Chateau Moulin de la Rose in Saint-Julien. Rebuilt and revitalized in 1985 by Guy Delon, the property is now managed by Jean-Francois Delon, with a philosophy centered on precision, discipline, and terroir expression.
Vineyard Notes
The vineyard, covering approximately 7 hectares, lies on one of the finest gravel ridges of Saint-Estephe, composed of deep Garonne gravels over cool clay subsoils. This exceptional terroir gives the wine its signature structure, mineral tension, and aging potential. It is managed with meticulous attention, including controlled yields (approximately 40 to 45 hl/ha), double Guyot pruning, and targeted canopy management.
Winemaking and Aging
Harvesting is carried out manually with strict parcel selection. Vinification is traditional, with long macerations (approximately 3 weeks) and gentle extraction to preserve tannin quality. The wine is aged for approximately 20 months in French oak barrels (30 to 35% new), allowing for integration, depth, and aromatic precision. Winemaking is supported by consultant Eric Boissenot, reinforcing the estate's technical rigor.
Tasting Notes
The nose reveals cassis, blackberry, graphite, and violet, with subtle earthy and mineral nuances. On the palate, the wine is dense and structured, with firm yet refined tannins and a precise, linear profile. The finish is long, fresh, and driven by mineral tension, with a classic Saint-Estephe backbone. A structured and precise Saint-Estephe, Chateau Segur de Cabanac 2022 reflects both historical pedigree and modern vineyard discipline - delivering a wine of depth, tension, and classic Medoc character.
Food Pairing
Grilled meats, lamb, game, roasted poultry, and classic Medoc cuisine.

Tasting Notes: Taut and streamlined, this has a gentle power with concentrated black fruits and lovely grippy, softly grainy tannins that provide the width and direction. Well built, nothing too much, with acidity and freshness throughout. Not the most dense or layered, but beautiful precision on show and lots to like too. Easy enjoyment still with terroir signature in the minerality on the finish. Eric Boissenot consultant.

Tasting Notes: The 2022 Segur de Cabanac offers ripe black fruit mixed with baking powder on the nose - moderate definition. The palate has a soft opening, fleshy and sweet, though I am missing a bit of bite and tension toward the finish. Not bad, but perhaps it needed lighter maceration?
