Terroir and Harvest
A breathtakingly beautiful place set among centuries-old oak trees and a patchwork of meticulously planted vineyards, Oakville has become recognized as one of the world's preeminent wine regions. Here, soil and climate coalesce, allowing us to produce elegant, age-worthy, and immensely enjoyable Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit for this delicious wine comes from our Oakville Estate and carefully selected lots from our grower neighbors. Coming from a diverse selection of vineyards, the fruit was harvested over 23 days this season, showcasing the complexity and diversity within this compact AVA. The fruit is night-harvested, cluster sorted by hand, crushed, then fermented at our Oakville Estate winery.

Tasting Notes
The alluring, dense, dark plum color of the 2016 Oakville Cabernet is the first indication of the wine's rich extraction. Sweet aromas of blackberry tart, ripe plums, and marzipan are complemented with a savory hint of toasted coriander seed. The palate opens smoothly, building to a rich, full mouthfeel - the young tannins hinting at a restrained power. A beautifully balanced acidity dances throughout, giving an undercurrent of freshness and a counterpoint to the sweetness of the new French oak, lifting the dark fruits and bringing forward ripe red berries. The finish is layered with baking spices, wild blackberries, and a hint of dried black currant. This wine is enjoyably exuberant now but has the fruit and structure to last another 15+ years should you desire.

Pairings
Braised short ribs with root vegetables or a big ol' juicy hamburger will be excellent companions for this rich red wine. If meat isn't for you, this Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon will also pair beautifully with a rich wild mushroom risotto.

Tasting Notes: Cameron Parry found his Cabernet vines ripened their fruit in 2016 at Brix levels that were lower than usual, sustaining acidity in the grapes. They produced a young and luscious Oakville Cabernet, the wine integrating oak and fruit tannins in a way that supercharges its flavors. Rather than weighing the wine down, the structure empowers it, presenting plummy blue fruit, scents of cassis and fruity-umami notes of mushrooms that last, gracious, gentle and refined.

Tasting Notes: The 2016 Groth Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic representation of the vintage, with dark berry fruit and plenty of acid tension that cuts through any richness like a knife. Fragrant cedarwood spices add further complexity. Sampled during a vertical tasting of Groth wines (1982–2022) in early 2024 with proprietor Dennis Groth.

Tasting Notes: Blended with 9% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, this Cabernet opens with earthy aromas of tar, sage and cedar. It expands on the palate to show an elegant structure of finessed, supple tannins alongside layers of clove and cinnamon atop ripe red and black berries.

Tasting Notes: A hint of singed savory leads off, turning quickly to a core of raspberry and mulberry fruit, lined with alluring tea, sanguine and iron notes. Offers fine-grained grip and should unwind nicely in the cellar. Drink now through 2030. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

Tasting Notes: Groth's 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon (Oakville) is soft, pretty and understated. A sweet floral and spice character gives this gracious, mid-weight Oakville Cabernet lovely aromatic top notes. The 2016 is an attractive wine, but is also a bit light, even within this more restrained style favored by Groth.

Tasting Notes: Medium garnet-black in color, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon has an earthy nose with fungi and chargrill with plums and kirsch at the core. Medium-bodied, the palate is hollow, rustic and short on the finish.
