2022 Russian River Valley Chardonnay Running Creek Vineyard

Highlighting lush, layered flavors, bright acidity, and impeccably balanced French oak, Migration is dedicated to crafting wines from the finest cool-climate winegrowing regions. This dedication led us to establish our estate vineyard in the heart of the legendary Russian River Valley. This wine is a selection of the best blocks and barrels of wine from this exceptional site. With notes of citrus blossom, white flower, and stone fruit, this wine is layered with flavor and aroma while light and refreshing on the palate.

Vintage Notes
While the 2022 growing season in the Sonoma Coast was compact and eventful, it produced wines with lush, refined tannins, opulent layers of fruit, and lively natural acidity. Thanks to warm summer temperatures, we began harvesting our warmest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vineyard at ideal ripeness in mid-August. The arrival of a significant heat event near Labor Day gave the remaining vineyards a final push to ripeness, and we concluded harvest in mid-September. Overall, the quality was spectacular. The Chardonnays have beautiful citrus and tropical aromas and lush, concentrated flavors, while the Pinot Noirs offer supple, refined tannins and luxurious layers of dark berry fruit.

Winemaking Notes
Once again, Running Creek Vineyard has produced a dynamic and delicious wine with tantalizing aromas of peach, nectarine, citrus, and orange blossom. The stone fruit and citrus layers are echoed on the broad, luxurious palate, with hints of custard and ripe pear adding nuance and depth to a long, supple finish.

Tasting Notes: Bright straw/pale yellow-hued, the 2022 Chardonnay Running Creek Vineyard was raised for 10 months in 100% French oak barrels, with 43% being new. Ripe and peppery aromas lift from the glass with notes of poached pear, candied lemon, and vanilla bean. Full-bodied, it stays light on its feet, with a nice balance of decadence and lift, and it has a long, floral finish with refined oak spice. It’s very nicely done and is going to drink well over the coming 5-7 years.
