Tasting Notes: Aged in 60% new French oak barrels and boasting a shining dark purple-blue core with a neon purple rim, the 2021 WeatherEye Estate Syrah is another unbelievably good wine from master winemaker Todd Alexander. Rich and assertive, this full-bodied effort hits you and doesn’t let go. Meaty notes start things off in the glass and then move aromas of lush, ripe mountain blueberries, crushed violet flowers, bacon fat, black peppercorns, pencil shavings, and wet earth aromas. Tannins are integrated but present, while the acidity is elevated and balanced. A lovely wine. Better in 2026. Highly recommended.

Tasting Notes: Classic Syrah aromas of blackberries, peppery herbs, blueberries, bouquet garni, and some gamey, meaty notes all emerge from the 2021 Syrah Estate, a rich, medium to full-bodied, flawlessly balanced Syrah. With ample mid-palate depth, building yet ripe tannins, and a great finish, it's one of the standouts in the lineup, and while I love it today, I have no doubt it will evolve for 10-15 years if well stored.

Tasting Notes: The 2021 Syrah WeatherEye Estate is distinctly savory and earthy in the glass, with a meaty mix of beef blood and underbrush giving way to wilted violets and crushed stone. It's soothingly round and cool-toned in feel, with ripe red and black fruits accentuated by a flourish of sweet spice toward the close. The 2021 leaves edgy tannins, yet the mouth waters for more as notes of bitter cocoa and sage slowly fade.

Tasting Notes: Early on, the Syrah played hard to get. Everything seemed muted. Then, with the umpteenth glass swirl, the wine opened up to blow me an aromatic kiss of blackberries, black pepper, bacon fat and a trace of granola. The medium-bodied wine's flavors of black cherry, espresso and vanilla extract went on forever, ably backed by fine-grained tannins and elevated acidity.

Tasting Notes: The wines from Weathereye in 2021 share an initial reticence. This one takes a day to show up, starting off as a seamless beauty, reserved to a fault. After a second day, out of a pine-frond savor, the wine’s succulence emerges, black fruit turns to dark red and purple, juicy raspberries, hints of red and sunshine. By the third day, red fruit and horehound spice are melded beautifully, with impressive clarity and balance.

Tasting Notes: I like the mix of white and black pepper here, plus dark mocha, grilled rosemary and dark cherry fruit. Touch of cedar. Intensely flavorful and full-bodied with firm and polished tannins. Broad and firm finish. 97% Syrah and 3% Graciano. Drink or hold.

Tasting Notes: The WeatherEye Vineyard is perched at the crest of Red Mountain, but its wines aren't included in the Red Mountain AVA as some parts are too high and others extend onto the north side. This is a potent, very ripe wine packed with black cherry and plum flavours that are anchored by a steely coolness and nervy acidity that pierces through the finish. Vinified with 20% whole clusters and matured for 18 months in 60% new, large-format French oak, it's glossy and opulent yet delicate in texture with a finish marked by fine, polished tannins.
