The Situation
Six generations and nearly two centuries of work have gone into building this superb vineyard. Some serious renovation work and investment in the property began in 1974, financed by the Denechaud family, and is continued today by their daughter and son-in-law, Jerome Lafon. These two young winemakers follow the principles used by their ancestors in 1850 with the help of today's technology. They have increased their family domaine to over 60 hectares and three properties in the Cotes de Blaye and Cotes de Bourg.

The Winemaker
Jerome Lafon is a massively competent winemaker who works in complete discretion. He makes wonderful wines because of his attention to detail in every aspect of the winemaking process. Nothing from vine to bottle is outside of his consideration. He himself proclaims that his wines are made according to the Bordelais traditions and respect their individual terroir. Their investment in new technologies not only encourages improvement in quality but also respects nature.

Tasting Notes
The Terre de Viaud delivers aromas and flavors of red cherries and red plums, nicely mixed with spices, tobacco, and crushed stones. On the palate, this possesses a medium body and displays a nice balance of fruit and acidity, leading up to the finish where red cherries and tobacco notes linger on. The 2022 is drinking well now, and will continue to evolve and gain in complexity over the next few years.

Tasting Notes: A bold, dark chocolate wine with rich tannins, this has spice as well as black plum aromas. It is a generous, rounded wine, ready to age further. Drink from 2027.
