Crux's Russian River Valley Grenache offers a charming New World take on a Rhone Valley classic. Partial whole-berry carbonic fermentation and aging in neutral oak keep the grapes' natural fruitiness front and center, with a palate that exudes ripe raspberry and hints of strawberry. A splash of Syrah lends a peppery note to the wine, alongside fragrant violet from the addition of Mourvedre. Earthy birch bark rounds out the layers of flavors, supported by gentle tannins and a splash of acidity. Simply put: a lovely, balanced red that punches far above its price point!

We source Grenache for this beautiful wine from the Campbell McKinney Vineyard in the extreme northern end of the Russian River Valley AVA, along with our estate vineyard, Force Five, outside of Windsor. We add small amounts of Syrah and Mourvedre for weight and spice to go with the fresh and lively Grenache flavors. It was aged in neutral cooperage to preserve its natural flavors with minimal handling from harvest to bottle.

Harvest
The 2021 harvest was cool and even, allowing ideal ripening while preserving acidity. Each block used was picked as it was ready, which spread the harvest of individual blocks over one month.
