2019 Bjornson Vineyard Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noir
Vineyard and Vintage
Powered by renewable energy and L.I.V.E. and Salmon Safe Certified, the Bjornson family farms their Eola-Amity Hills vineyard with great attention to detail. With southwest, south, southeast, and east exposures, this site contains a host of microclimates. Surrounded by riparian areas, the vineyard takes into account the broader ecosystem while producing mesmerizing wines.
Winemaking Notes
The 2019 growing season was a lovely one throughout the Willamette Valley, which was no exception in the Eola-Amity Hills. Our 777 block, which is the softer, more delicate lot, was picked first and was 50% destemmed. We fermented this lot hot and quickly for mouthfeel and extraction, then sealed it up for extended maceration. It is the last lot of Bjornson to be pressed. The Pommard was picked next, fermented in an open-top bin with 50% whole-cluster. This lot gives darker fruit and a denser mouthfeel, with excellent length. The last fruit we bring in every year is the Wadenswil clone, one of our favorite blocks to work with. It is fermented 100% whole-cluster and gives an intensely spicy nose, coupled with structured tannins and piercing acidity. The wines were aged in about a quarter new oak for 16 months.

Tasting Notes
Pours an opaque, brickish ruby color. A gamey, funky, and reductive nose of flint, nutmeg, clove, bay leaf, raspberry, and red currant. The wine balances juicy acidity and a creamy mouthfeel interwoven with spic, barnyard, terracotta, tart blackberry, and fresh raspberry.

Tasting Notes: Lots of berry, floral and rose-stem character to this. Medium to full body with creamy tannins and a flavorful, savory finish. So delicious now, but will age beautifully. Drink or hold.

Tasting Notes: This is a firm, elegant Pinot from the shallow soils at Bjornson. The aromas are brushy and savory, their hints of red cherry giving way to a mildly juicy, gracefully composed wine, a thinly drawn line of red fruits, with the energy and lift for sturgeon. - P.J.C.

Tasting Notes: The 2019 Pinot Noir Bjornson Vineyard sees [...] whole cluster in fermentation, with 16 months in barrels, and is expressive with spicy and floral aromas of framboise, wildflowers, and well-managed stemmy and forest herb spice. Medium-bodied, with a graceful weightless feel, it has fine tannins, a spine of fresh acidity, and notes of toasty incense on the finish. It should hold up nicely over the coming 5-6 years.

Tasting Notes: Quite a floral nose, with red raspberries and the spicy aroma of daphne combined with sweet and powdery violets. The bright red cherry and lemon flavors match the wine's brisk acidity. A fresh, crisp mouthfeel with velvety tannins.

Tasting Notes: Pale garnet, the 2019 Pinot Noir Bjornson Vineyard has generic, earthy red and black fruits and a bit of spice on the nose. The palate is light-bodied and very earthy, without much fruit, and it has an overly juicy finish.
