Not many producers can say they source fruit from estate-owned, centennial vines grown on their own rootstocks on a sun-drenched mountainside. For Achaval Ferrer, this privileged position allows them to craft flavorful bottlings that uniquely showcase Argentina's most famous wine region and most famous grape variety. Having garnered quite the critical acclaim, this 96-point 2021 Finca Mirador is at once soft and powerful. An impressive, collector-worthy Mendoza Malbec!

Finca Mirador
Wine Description
This wine stands out for its arid expression: the exceptional effort of our vines to grow and mature under such challenging conditions gives rise to a smooth, enveloping wine that conquers the palate. Its core, rich in black fruit, graphite, and spices, provides a unique complexity and a deep character.
Background
Achaval Ferrer has a singular passion: to produce world-class, terroir-driven Argentine wines. Achaval Ferrer, as guardian of the terroir, produces Malbec from its century-old vineyards located in the most renowned regions of Mendoza. They represent the province's winemaking heritage and tradition, highlighting the richness and diversity of each area. Planted in 1921, Finca Mirador is on the banks of the lower Tunuyan Riverbed in Medrano, Junin, in eastern Mendoza, at an altitude of 2,300 feet. The soil of Finca Mirador is clay loam on the surface and sandy loam at depth, reflecting the intensity of the sun and scorching heat. Every summer at night, a cool breeze descends from the nearby hills, helping maintain the natural acidity of this structured Malbec. This wine, with a monolithic profile in its youth, will reveal all its complexity over time.

Production
Double selection of bunches and grains to achieve the highest quality of grapes. Fermentation in concrete tanks without cold pre-fermentation maceration, filtration, or bleeding off. The grape retains its natural acidity during daily open pumping over during fermentation. It ends with a gentle pressing determined by daily tasting. Primary fermentation took place in small concrete tanks. Malolactic fermentation took place in new French oak barrels. Bottled at the winery, unclarified and unfiltered to maintain the integrity of aromas and flavors. This wine may present sediments that do not affect its quality. We recommend decanting one hour before consumption.

Tasting Notes: Tons of black fruit with a note of graphite, violets and dark chocolate. Plush, gritty tannins with concentrated, juicy blackberries and very silky tannins. Ripe, rich but still fresh, with a lingering finish that goes on and on. A full-bodied, rich and plush wine, but fresh and balanced. Drink or hold.

Tasting Notes: The softest and ripest wine in Achaval Ferrer's Finca range, the 2021 Malbec Finca Mirador was produced from vines planted in 1921 in the sandy soils of eastern Mendoza's Medrano district. The warm conditions here contribute to its soft, fruit-dominated aromatic profile, which is defined by inky compote notes with spice-driven accents. It is dense, oily and powerful on the palate yet retains a vibrant core that runs through the saturated, savory finish.
