Caparzo produced its first vintage of Brunello di Montalcino in 1970, when the situation in Montalcino was very different than it is now. At the time there were only 13 wineries in Montalcino, and this makes Caparzo one of the historic Brunello producers. The distinguishing characteristic of Caparzo's Brunello di Montalcino is clearly the origin of its Sangiovese. Indeed, the estate is one of the few in Montalcino that has vineyards in the various geographic areas of the appellation. What might seem to be just a detail is instead quite positive, because the different locations of Caparzo's vineyards allow the estate to draw the most from the different microclimates and terroirs present in Montalcino. The grapes harvested from the vineyards in the various areas of the appellation are carefully selected to lay the foundations for a complex wine that brings together all of the characteristics that make Brunello one of the world's most sought-after wines.

Vineyard Details
Caparzo: 220 meters above sea level in the northern part of the appellation. 8 hectares. Sandy-clayey Pliocene sediments.
La Caduta: 300 meters above sea level in the southwestern part of the appellation. 7 hectares. Loosely packed stony arenaceous schist.
Il Cassero: 270 meters above sea level in the southern part of the appellation. 6 hectares. Pliocene sediments with sandy-stony or scisty-clayey matrix.
San Piero - Caselle: 250 meters above sea level in the eastern part of the appellation. 2 hectares. Sandy-clayey.

Winemaking Notes
During the first two days of the fermentation, special attention is paid to the seeds, which are eliminated if they are not ripe enough. This operation is made possible by the cutting-edge technology of our fermentation tanks. The primary fermentation takes seven days, at controlled temperatures between 28 and 30 degrees C, and is followed by delestages and pump-overs. Because of the superb quality of the skins, the wine is kept in contact with them for a further 10 to 15 days. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation, at a controlled temperature of 20 to 24 degrees C, immediately after racking. Aged in wood for at least two years. Aged in bottle for at least four months.

Tasting Notes: An intoxicating wine with elegant aromas of roses, violets, leaves, mint, strawberries and red cherries. Full-bodied, it shows a juicy palate with ripe, velvety tannins of good extraction and a licorice finish. Try from 2027.

Tasting Notes: There's plenty of red fruit flavors of cherry, strawberry and raspberry, with hints of wood smoke, tobacco and iron. Firmly built, with vibrant acidity and a line of dusty tannins. This is elegant overall and super long. Best from 2029 through 2048.

Tasting Notes: The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino is peppery and floral, mixing dried herbs, exotic spices, crushed rocks and wild strawberries. Wonderfully lifted and graceful, it offers cooling acidity and pretty wild berry fruits beneath an air of sweet lavender. It tapers off with extreme length and youthful poise as a coating of fine tannins frames nuances of clove. A dark and radiant beauty.

Tasting Notes: The 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino is a bright red/garnet color and is packed with aromas of cherries and spice, with dried herbs, smoky earth, and anise. Medium-bodied, it is pure and inviting, with refined tannins, brisk acidity, and a great finish. This is a fabulous vintage for this wine to drink now or over the next 12-15 years. Drink 2026-2041.

Tasting Notes: Initially subdued on the nose, the Caparzo 2021 Brunello di Montalcino reveals measured notes of cassis, spice and grilled herbs that clearly signal its Sangiovese origin. The palate is easygoing and accessible, with soft, approachable tannins that make this a comfortable choice for near- to mid-term drinking rather than extended cellaring. Tasting Notes: A true panorama of Montalcino, Caparzo's green label Brunello is a compilation from [...] diverse areas throughout the denomination. In fact, the only piece missing is the far northwest. The 2021 illustrates the floral aspect of the vintage: cherry blossom and preserved rose lift from the earthy background. This is sweet fruited with red plum and strawberry. Supple tannins are fluently interwoven. Attractive and inviting, it is fashioned to make friends, not enemies. Ready now.

Tasting Notes: Aromas of underbrush, lavender and eucalyptus form the nose on the Caparzo 2021 Brunello. Lithe and rather easygoing for Brunello, the medium-bodied palate suggests Morello cherry, blood orange, espresso and star anise alongside chalky tannins that leave a drying finish. Drink 2028-2036. Abv: 14%

Tasting Notes: Lustrous mid ruby beginning to show some development. Brooding, with subdued intensity on the nose and a little stalky/reduced right now. Sour-cherry fruit on the palate with a heap of powdery tannins. Overall a little austere.
