2022 Arnaut Boushey Vineyard Syrah
The Story
For our taste, no one grows finer Syrah in the state than Dick Boushey. We make this wine with minimal manipulation using native yeasts, bottling unfined and unfiltered, to allow the "place" to shine through. We named this wine after the Provencal troubadour, Arnaut Daniel, who invented the Sestina poem form, thus creating a connection between our two flagship efforts.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
"This vintage brings an exceptional level of finesse to Arnaut, but no shortage of the wild, savory aspects we expect from this wine. The nose features, blueberry, salted blackberry, charcoal-grilled pork chop, asphalt, bittersweet chocolate, bee pollen, and a hint of grapefruit pith. Rich and beautifully textured on the palate, with pure Boushey notes of blueberry reduction, bacon fat, cacao nibs, charcoal embers, and grilled thyme. The elegance here hints at this wine drinking well on release, and it should age nicely for 8-12 years." - Chris Peterson, Winemaker

Tasting Notes: The 2022 Avennia ‘Arnaut’ Syrah is a masterclass in single-vineyard expression, with fruit sourced from the famed Boushey Vineyard. Fermented with native yeast and 20% whole clusters in a mix of concrete and steel, this Syrah was then aged for 18 months in 15% new French oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered. The result is a wine that captivates from the first pour with aromas of blood orange zest, high-toned rose petals, and salty earth, layered over smoked brisket and savory herbs. The palate delivers remarkable depth, balancing mineral-driven complexity with velvety tannins and a polished, refined mouthfeel. Its vibrant energy and elegant structure suggest a wine built for longevity, yet it is utterly enjoyable now. [...]. Highly recommended.

Tasting Notes: Showing Old World complexity within the confines of Washington's abundant fruit, the 2022 Syrah Arnaut Boushey Vineyard is balanced and textured, layered in full-bodied blackberry, black pepper, and lavender. Rounded and layered, the tannins are lengthy and silky and will allow the wine the age another 10-15 years.

Tasting Notes: The 2022 Syrah Arnaut Boushey Vineyard is darkly floral, mixing crushed violet and flowery underbrush with hints of clove and sage. This sweeps across the palate with ease, silken yet lifted in feel, with crisp red and black fruits that take on an almost crunchy sensation toward the close. The 2022 finishes long and pleasantly bitter, leaving sweet tannins that add a truly classic feel. The Arnaut hails from two separate parcels of the Boushey Vineyard, which were picked especially late in 2022.

Tasting Notes: With its venison steak, cherry compotes, rosemary and sage aromas, Arnaut is like a great meal at a remote hunting lodge. Rough-around-the-edges tannins back concentrated black cherry, orange zest, clove and cedar flavors. Try this decadent, spicy treat with a chunk of 70% cacao chocolate.
